Description |
The tiles comprising the 13'x59' Persian carpet designed by Inez von Hake, intended for the mansion or 'castle' May Rindge had commissioned on a hill across from the Adamson House in 1926, lie assembled on the floor of the Potteries in late 1931/early 1932. The east end of the Potteries had burned to the ground November 11, 1931. The Rindge castle ultimately became the Serra Retreat. The Persian carpet was installed there, but the Retreat itself suffered a disastrous wildfire in 1970, and the carpet was mostly destroyed (see AH-103). |
