Description |
The Malibu Business Men's Association Directory of Malibu Businesses and residences. In 1948 the growing number of businesses in the emerging township of Malibu formed an Association to promote the growth of Malibu. Among their many activities, they published the first directories of businesses established in the township, along with the names, addresses and phone numbers of those citizens willing to be represented. The Museum has copies of these directories beginning in 1950 and runnng through the mid-1960s. Shown here are a sample of some of the pages from the early editions. Top: 1951, list of businesses in the Malibu Plaza Bldg., the transplanted Olas Grandes Inn (q.v.). Middle: 1952, spiffy new Studebaker in front of Chris Polos' Las Flores Inn just before it underwent expansion, modernization and a name change (to the Sea Lion Restaurant). Bottom: 1953, offices of the Marblehead Land Co., charged with the sale of Rancho Malibu lands still in the hands of the Rindge and Adamson families. |
