Description |
Yerba Buena Road and Little Sycamore Canyon, late 1930s. The original Rancho Malibu purchased by the Rindges in 1891/2 had the Los Angeles/Ventura County line as its western boundary. However in subsequent years Frederick Rindge purchased several adjacent parcels of land westward into Ventura County (see DM-155). The purpose of these purchases may have been related to his plans to build a railway across his ranch, with the eventual aim of linking his ranch to Hueneme Bay further up-coast, considered at the time as a possible site for a major seaport serving the Los Angeles basin. Had this plan succeeded, he would have been in a position to make a great deal of money controlling a vital rail link between such a port and the cities of LA and Santa Monica. |
