Description |
Flooding of Malibu Lagoon, winter 1938. The Adamsons are now in residence full time at the Adamson House on Vacquero Hill (bottom center). A particularly severe winter storm has resulted in torrents of water pouring out of Malibu Canyon, damaging the Roosevelt Highway/US 101 bridge over Malibu Creek. Traffic was interrupted for many days. The waters can also be seen rising from the normal confines of Malibu Lagoon and encroaching on the Adamson compound. Fortunately the Adamson family had retained their home in Hancock Park to which they could retreat in such emergencies. Over the years, two of the four smaller beach homes May Rindge had built along the Rancho coastline would be destroyed by such floods. See also DM-24.7. |
