Description |
Malibu Colony area, 1942. A key stage in the development of the City of Malibu. The widened, realigned version of US-101A that will become Pacific Coast Highway is emerging. US-101A will head slightly inland, up and over Marie bluffs, and then back down to the beach. The portion of Roosevelt Highway that runs behind and to the west of Malibu Colony will become Malibu Road, which still exists. The County dirt road (A) will shortly disappear. The area surrounding the Malibu Inn (white arrow) will become a huge shopping center anchoring the west end of commercial Malibu. The Inn itself will be demolished in 1951 and a similar structure erected on PCH across from the Malibu Pier. The cultivated area above the junction of the new and old highways will be the future administrative center of City of Malibu, and regional County offices. |
