Description |
Widening and straightening Roosevelt Highway near Walnut Canyon, 1940. One of many projects during the late 1930s, early 1940s to bring US 101A up to modern standards for a smooth, swift four-lane highway. As traffic speeds increased in the early twentieth century, curves such as that seen here above Point Dume, on a narrow two lane road, became increasingly dangerous, leading to accidents of various kinds. The straighter highway being carved out of the hillside on the left will also have four lanes, each also slightly wider than the ones the trucks are now driving on. |
