Malibu Potteries plant ca. 1928. Tent at east (left) end was where Rufus Keeler, plant manager and master ceramicist, lived during the work week. His home was in South Gate. Three powerful fuel oil- fired kilns are at the west end. The new Roosevelt highway is visible here.Although not officially completed until 1929, the first portions of it were completed much earlier at the east end of the Rancho, facilitating operation of the plant. |
